From script to shelf: publishing the untold story of Khed’s batata farmers

This case study traces the journey of turning a powerful journalistic manuscript into a 256-page printed book celebrating the batata farmers of Khed, Maharashtra.

The project was commissioned by ETC Consultants and AFC Agriculture and Finance Consultants GmbH, who entrusted us with every stage of the publishing pipeline: proofreading, cover design, interior formatting, and coordinating the print run of 1,000 copies.

The Challenge

ETC Consultants and AFC Agriculture and Finance Consultants GmbH handed Write Wing Media a comprehensive brief: take Nirmala Govindarajan’s finished manuscript and produce a publication worthy of the farmers, researchers, and funders whose work it represents. The scope covered cover design, interior formatting, proofreading across the full 256 pages, and end-to-end coordination with a commercial printer — all converging on 1,000 printed copies ready for distribution.

The challenge was not simply technical. The manuscript carried documentary weight: field interviews, agronomic data, and lived experience. Every editorial and design decision had to honour that material without imposing a corporate aesthetic onto a story rooted in rural Maharashtra.
